Trans-Cranial Doppler (TCD) & Intravascular Ultrasonography
| Intravascular Ultrasonography (IVUS) is real-time ultrasound imaging from within the blood vessels using a tiny catheter-based ultrasound probe that can be helpful in patients being evaluated for and undergoing balloon angioplasty and stenting of the carotid arteries. In addition, patients with brain-attacks can benefit from a transcranial Doppler (TCD) ultrasound study. TCD is useful in the diagnostic evaluation of ischemic stroke. TCD is also useful in the evaluation of patients with bleeding-type strokes (sub-arachnoid hemorrhage) who are at risk for cerebral vasospasm (vessel narrowing). |
The Texas Stroke Institute is a collaborative initiative that includes eleven North Texas HCA hospitals. Our goal is to develop an effective and resource-efficient plan to reduce the morbidity, mortality and economic burden of stroke in the region. Incorporating medical education and participating in research will establish us as a National Center of Excellence in Stroke.
